My “Personal Belize”
Although there were many motivations for leaving Canada and moving to a tropical paradise, one big inspiration was Don Campbell’s book “Real Estate Investing in Canada”. A famous chapter discusses the concept of your “personal Belize.” It explains the value of having a big goal, whether it beings a villa in a topical climate on a private beach, a cabin in the mountains of Europe, or just a cottage up north. A retreat to find solitude. A place where you can spend quality time with the people you love. A reward for the sacrifices and hard work as an investor.
Leaving Canada for the Caribbean:
After thousands of hours of research and connecting with many experts, he kept coming back to the Caribbean. There was just something sexy and exotic about it. In 2021, Dan sold all his personal possessions in Canada and relocated to the eastern Caribbean. He is now living and investing tax-free in the former British Territory of Antigua & Barbuda. He is also weeks away from becoming a citizen through the Antigua & Barbuda Citizenship by Investment program. Dan still enjoys travelling in North America, Europe and Asia. Although the transition was difficult and many missteps were made, it was one of the best investments and decisions he ever made.
